Yes, Malkovich, Malkovich, Malkovich. These photographs are so spot-on that you might not believe that they’re full recreations rather than some deft Photoshop work. Photographer Sandro Miller collaborated with John Malkovich to recreate some of the most famous portraits captured throughout in photo history. Miller first met his long time friend back in the late 1990s while shooting photographs for Steppenwolf Theater in Chicago. The project was started last year after Sandro wanted to pay tribute to the photographers who have inspired him and shaped his photographic career. He selected 35 iconic photos, and then enlisted the eager help of Malkovich. Miller says;
“John is the most brilliant, prolific person I know. His genius is unparalleled. I can suggest a mood or an idea and within moments, he literally morphs into the character right in front of my eyes. He is so trusting of my work and our process… I’m truly blessed to have him as my friend and collaborator.”
This amazing series is a testament to both Miller’s photography and editing skills, as well as Malkovich’s acting. I really can’t decide which is my favorite, they are all so great. If I had to pick ONE, it might be the Arbus – that one is BE-yond. Sandro Miller: Malkovich, Malkovich, Malkovich: Homage to Photographic Masters will run from November 7 — January 31, 2015 at the Catherine Edelman Gallery in Chicago.
