We’ve all posted stuff we thought was really the real deal and it turned out to be a big fat hoax. Snopes can usually spot the crap, even if we are gullible. At The Wow Report, we really do our best to bring you a mix of actual news, fun facts, weird pictures, video, tidbits, oddities and a healthy dose of Wowlebrities in an easily digestible internet stew. But as it turns out, that three-breasted woman Wow reported on was a hoax! Gasp! TMZ has a LOT of trash, for sure but more often than not lately, they are getting the REAL scoop on traditional news outlets. Here’s what they had to say about this boob;
“Jasmine Tridevil has been making the rounds, claiming she got plastic surgery to net her an additional boob. But we got a document from the Tampa International Airport Police Dept. describing a baggage theft. According to the doc … someone stole a bunch of luggage off an American Airlines conveyor belt, including a black nylon roller bag. Cops caught the thieves after IDing them with surveillance video. The black bag belonged to Tridevil, but before she got it back it was inventoried by police as part of the case against the crooks. Guess what was inside the bag? “A 3 breast prosthesis.” BTW … she told cops the prosthesis was valued at $5K. The boobs are perfect, but she’s a little crooked.”
There you have it. Thanks, TMZ.
So here, as a public service, are some sites to look out for that have humorous, satirical stories that have circulated as REAL NEWS:
The Borowitz Report
The New Yorker hosts the humor of the very smart and funny, Andy Borowitz. His work is so convincing that China’s Xinhua news agency reported that Amazon founder Jeff Bezos explained his acquisition of the Washington Post “as an unintentional mouse click.” They thought that it MUST be true, if they found it on The New Yorker. Nope. For my money, he’s MUCH funnier than The Onion, because his stuff is always on the money and topical (no Bill Clinton “jokes”)
ChristWire
This site’s current headline story today is:
“Obama is Infecting Christians with Ebola To Destroy Jesus and Start A New Age of Liberal Darkness”.
Well, when they featured an article calling for “Sarah Palin to lead a US invasion into Egypt”, MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow called them out on air but to her credit, after discovering that she’d been tricked, she did apologize for her gullibility. (…and likely got pissed at her research team! I have a young friend working there, that I shall not name but I’ll be he knows JUICY details…)
Super Tuesday News
A furious Sarah Palin (you gotta know by now if she’s involved, real or not, always add LOTS of salt) allegedly told Sean Hannity that Christina Aguilera should be deported for botching a portion of “The Star-Spangled Banner” during her performance at Super Bowl XLV. Both Time and US News reported the same thing, based on a story they found on Super Tuesday News. Fake as three boobs in a duffle bag.
The Daily Currant
The venerable Washington Post no less, had Suzi Parker reporting that “late last week Al Jazeera America announced the former vice-presidential candidate, Al Gore would be joining their news network…” But Suzi scooped the non-story from the Daily Currant, which had published a faux Sarah Palin interview. I think TDC is the LEAST funny and confusing of all of these satirical sites. Beware, The Daily Currant.
The Onion
The “king” of satirical sites, The Onion, these days everyone knows to look out for (personally, I don’t find them all that funny, but every once in a while, a headline gives you a chuckle) But when they posted a story naming Kim Jong Un, leader of North Korea as the “Sexiest Man Alive for 2012,” the People’s Daily Online, the Chinese state government newspaper, though it was TOTALLY real, and repeated that;
“his devastatingly handsome, round face, his boyish charm, and his strong, sturdy frame, this Pyongyang-bred heartthrob is every woman’s dream come true.”
Now ANYONE not already brain-washed (with eyes in their head) would know THAT had to be fake.
Here are 5 other “sources” to watch out for:
The National Report
El Deforma
The Hummus News
World News Daily Report
Duffel Blog
