Back in 2000, when Britney Spears released Oops…I Did it Again, it sold 1,325,311 copies in its first week making it the highest debut for a female artist.  There were rumors swirling that Taylor Swift’s new album 1989 may dethrone Britney’s Oops… in first week sales, but it was just shy of beating Britney with sales of 1,316,427. That’s only 8,884 less albums. This is the second time Taylor has tried to snatch Britney’s crown. Back in 2012 when Taylor released Red, it became the second highest debut for a female artist with 1.21 million sales in its first week. The internet went NUTS over today’s news with Team Britney posting gifs and memes showing their queen stomping on Taylor Swift. Enjoy! I know I did!
