Today’s the day Andy Cohen‘s book is published. It’s a fabulous and satisfyingly indiscreet read.

The Andy Cohen Diaries: A Deep Look at a Shallow Year The Andy Cohen Diaries Natasha Richardson Michael Jackson Madonna Index Andy Warhol Andy Cohen Diaries Index Andy Cohen As its author confessed to me – and everyone else in the mediasphere – “I’m trying to rip off Andy Warhol” referring to The Andy Warhol Diaries published twenty-five years ago.

But Andy is too modest. What took Warhol fifteen years Andy accomplishes in just one. As he writes in the preface “I drop a ton of names. More names than you can imagine”.  No exaggeration.

But like his inspirational text, Andy publishes his book without an index

So we at World of Wonder have performed this public service and present to you The Andy Cohen Diaries Unofficial Index.

The Andy Cohen Diaries: A Deep Look at a Shallow Year The Andy Cohen Diaries Natasha Richardson Michael Jackson Madonna Index Andy Warhol Andy Cohen Diaries Index Andy Cohen Andy self-deprecatingly subtitles the book “A Deep Look At A Shallow Year”. And that’s actually pretty accurate. It’s a bit like reading the ultimate Facebook update; a real rub-your-nose-in-it reminder of how unglamorous and unstarstudded your life is.  As “Less Than Zero” was to the 1980′s, “The Andy Cohen Diaries” is to the millennia.  One dropped us into nightmarish nihilism, while the other walks us through the no less scary world of super-connectivity.

And the book does have a heart in the form of a beautiful Beagle with all-knowing eyes who Andy rescued from a kill shelter. We didn’t include him in the index because he’s on practically every page.

And before everyone rushes to judgement consider this entry from one night in September last year: “A perfect dinner… at Pastis where I had the french onion soup and branzino. We sat at the same corner table I sat at the night before 9/11 with Natasha Richardson after the Michael Jackson concert.  Walking out we saw the towers and all commented what a perfect night it was. Towers are gone. Natasha is gone. Michael Jackson is gone.”

Pastis is gone too, and – sooner or later – so will we all.

PS – The account of bumping into Madonna on a commercial flight flying under her own name (yes, it’s true; Andy checked the flight manifest) begins on page 130.
