While Star Wars fans have been nerdgasming over the trailer for The Force Awakens, there have been a few grumbles in the Twitterverse and elsewhere. Many, of course, are outraged to see an African American, John Boyega, in a stormtrooper suit because, duh, stormtroopers aren’t black – they’re clones of Jango Fett. Or mostly clones. I think. Of course he might not actually BE a stormtrooper, he may be merely disguised as one, trying to infiltrate them – OH I DON’T KNOW. The other problem with the 88-second teaser trailer is the new light saber which has two tiny light sabers jutting out the sides, which, of course, is HERESY. Light sabers look like light sabers and there’s no reason in the world to improve on them, especially when you can’t make improvements on YOUR CHILDHOOD. But Stephen Colbert took down the naysayers in a recent Colbert Report, expertly explaining what was really going on. Watch below.
From the Laughing Squid:
On a recent episode of The Colbert Report, host Stephen Colbert expertly explained the three-bladed lightsaber seen in the teaser for Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens (previously). The lightsaber has been subject to some ridicule online by fans who call the design impractical. Colbert used a tweet from Mystery Science Theater 3000 and RiffTrax star Bill Corbett as an example of fan outrage, but Colbert defends the design of the lightsaber’s unique crossguard by saying it is not three separate beams, but rather one continuous beam of plasma.
And in case you are THE ONLY PERSON ON THE PLANET who hasn’t seen the trailer –- watch it here.
