WHAT IS THIS MOVIE ABOUT?
D: It’s about a girl and her twin brother who confront 28 years of their codependency when they start to like the same guy, which sort of forces them for the first time to admit that maybe they’re too co-dependent. But it’s also about them moving on from the horrible relationships they were in before they met him, and realizing that they’ll be okay if they’re alone sometimes.
K: At 28 years old, it’s really a story of them both coming into their own. Growing up together they talked a lot about similar hopes and dreams, but now some of their childhood visions for their life must change as they learn how to be their own individual person. The way they managed their lives in the past must change if they are to achieve what they want for themselves in the future. At times they are still just children, now in adult lives, wanting the party to never end, but ALSO being torn by wanting more for themselves. It’s a love story. But not a typical one. In this story there are two Cinderella’s and not enough glass slippers. More than being “in love” with the same guy, it’s really a story of them both finally being able to love and rely on their own selves as much as they love and put their faith in the other. With any true love story, there are lots of ups and downs that we can all relate to and laugh about in life. As each generation has more and more opportunities that their parents didn’t have, they are faced with having to make more choices. Sometimes having the sky as the limit, limits our clarity. This is a love story for anyone. Anyone who has ever loved anyone. Anyone who has ever dreamed something more for themselves. Anyone who has ever made the decision to walk away from someone they love and take a different course in life. This is family love. Romantic Love. And love for life and your self in general.
WHY DID YOU GUYS WRITE THIS MOVIE?
D: We wanted to write something that would appeal to everyone, like people who love dry humor, Indie movies, but also people who love just mainstream, hilarious comedies like Bridesmaids. It really is laugh-out-loud funny I think, at least it was at our table read, but then it sort of hits you with these real moments…about these two twins who know everything about each other, but are sort of afraid to talk about the fact that maybe they’re too close, because they’re afraid of confronting that and being alone.
K: We wanted to write the funniest movie possible. I think the funniest things in life are those that we can all relate to. So, we chose to write about what we know. What we knew at the time was: the scarcity in finding anyone dateable, disillusioning work opportunities straight out of college, reaching an age where you really take a hard look at your circle of friends, and the always relatable family relationships that shape you as a person. We can relate to a mom that calls too much and gives plenty of unsolicited advice, but is someone who at the end of the day you call when you’re just not sure where to turn. When it comes to family no matter how strange, whacky or maybe imperfect they may be, home is home. I think we’ve all had chapters in our lives where we take inventory of our friend circle and ask ourselves if these are the people we really want to be around. Friends come and go. Some of the most unlikely people become the best of friends. In the movie Krystal and Donny are twins and “first friends” in the way that they are the first people each other ever met and have been best friends since day zero.
WHY IS THIS AN LGBT FILM?
D: It’s definitely an LGBT film in the sense that although it’s not necessarily about a gay relationship, the three main characters do just happen to be gay, straight, and bi, which is something I really like about this movie. Because ultimately the movie is about the twins’ relationship, and not as much about their relationship with the guy they both like, I like the fact that in this movie that aspect of it just sort of like “is.” It’s not an entire movie about wondering if this guy is gay or straight and agonizing over that dilemma. It’s about twins who share everything, and so they’re caught in this funny situation because of 28 years of codependency. And they happen to be boy/girl twins and Donny happens to be gay. It’s pretty realistic in that sense. Like it could happen.
K: I specifically love that we made this an LGBT movie. In the beginning the twins are unsure if the guy they like is gay, straight, bi or who knows. Much has been said in the world about what love really is but it’s never black and white. By nature, there is a lot of uncertainty in loving another. The twins seem to have very strong feelings toward “Andy” before even knowing whether he is gay, straight, bi etc. This is very important because it shows their love towards him is never contingent on him loving them back. True love isn’t an agreement. True love doesn’t ask for anything in return whether you are gay, straight, bi etc.
WHY DID YOU GUYS DECIDE TO PLAY THE TWINS?
D: Well we shot a pitch trailer to make sure that what we were writing was actually funny, so after that we watched it and thought that we should do it. I like the fact that we’re playing the twins, because we’re actually siblings.
K: As siblings we have the same expressions, the same reactions and cadence speaking. It’s an unmatched parallel that would be lost if we replaced ourselves with a different pair. Plus everyone we know has said how funny we are! And we’re not that bad looking! Can’t beat that!
