Openly gay Alabama state representative Patricia Todd is fed up with her cheating anti-gay colleagues, who have extramarital affairs (or maybe even gay hook-ups) all the while trashing the freedom to marry. This weekend, Birmingham representative fight back on Facebook, threatening to out those colleagues who made anti-gay speeches after a judge recently overturned the state’s ban on gay marriage. She wrote:
“This (is) a time where you find out who are accepting, loving people. To say I am disappointed in Speaker Hubbard comment’s and Attorney General Strange choice to appeal the decision is an understatement. I will not stand by and allow legislators to talk about ‘family values’ when they have affairs, and I know of many who are and have. I will call our elected officials who want to hide in the closet OUT.”
In an interview in the Alabama Times Daily, Todd clarifies her comments, saying that it is “pretty well known” that some state politicians fool around. She she that she wants these guys to:
“be careful what they’re saying, some of it might come back to stick on them.”
The court ruling that prompted this exchange caused an outcry among some of the state’s more conservative politicians. The judge has even put a two-week hold saying that gay couples won’t be able to marry until February 9. Well, just in time for Valentine’s Day. Patricia Todd, you know, sometimes whatever it takes… (via New York Magazine)
