Soul singer, D’Angelo and his band the Vanguard played the SNL stage with a pair of tracks off the acclaimed Black Messiah. For the “The Charade“, D’Angelo wore a hoodie in a nod to Trayvon Martin and the Vanguard wore shirts that said “I Can’t Breathe,” and “Black Lives Matter.” On the stage floor was a police outline of a human body. This is his first album in 14 years and D’Angelo and the Vanguard will perform at the Apollo Theater on February 7th, their only U.S. date before on a month-long tour of Europe.
