Yes, for seven days, Gwyneth Paltrow is living on the $29-per-week budget of families who rely on the Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP). She has accepted the #FoodBankNYCChallenge from her buddy celebrity chef and NYC Food Bank board member Mario Batali, who also challenged Sting and Debbie Harry. The challenge limits people to $1.38 per meal for a week. Gwyneth spread the word on Twitter, along with a photo from the grocery store of what she purchased with her $29. The haul included limes, cilantro, corn, whole grain brown rice and eggs. The #FoodBankNYCChallenge is meant to raise awareness about hunger and the struggle to live on a budget of just $29 per person for a week. Participants can use coupons, but they cannot use food that was already in their homes or food given to them by others.
I’ve seen comments posted putting Paltrow down for doing this asserting she’s a “liberal martyr” and saying that she’s “the worst!” No, YOU who do nothing, criticize and write things like that, YOU are “THE WORST.” But watch everyone continue trash her for this. The girl can’t win. It was a challenge, she didn’t make it up. And people are really going hungry trying to live on this allotment. To find your local food banks, you can go here.
