In this ultra-trippy 3-minute commercial, Justin Timberlake is Rick “Sour” Vane – a once-famous lime who used to be the bar condiment of choice back in the ’80s. “It was like you couldn’t drink tequila without one of us,” he says of his party-filled hey-day. “Literally, we were rock stars.” That was before the Sauza 901 brand of tequila made him obsolete, though.

The ad, inspired by Martin Scorsese rise-and-fall flicks like The Wolf of Wall Street, Raging Bull and Goodfellas, follows Timberlake as he and his friends celebrate the riches that come with being an indispensable part of tequila consumption. However, when Sauza 901 arrives on the scene – a tequila with a tagline of “No limes needed” – he spirals into depression, the green rinds on his face oxidizing like old fruit.
