If you’re in LA tonight, you need to check out Manifest Justice, a large-scale, social justice–themed pop-up exhibition featuring music – both local and global – as well as over 30 programs, workshops and events.

Included: A special screening of Rebel Music’s Native America: 7th Generation Rises, executive produced by Shepard Fairey, which will be followed by a discussion of music and human rights with director Billy Luther, MTV World’s Nusrat Durrani, music/acitivist Tom Morello,  and singer/activist Inez Jasper, who will perform afterwards. It’ll be moderated by the Sundance Institute’s Bird Runningwater.

Also: Roughly 200 artists are participating, including Swoon (see Garbage Bouquets and Beautiful Shipwrecks at Brooklyn Museum Swoon Exhibition), Shepard Fairey (see Shepard Fairey Says NYC Artists Are Screwed and Should Move to LA), Hank Willis Thomas (see The One Must See Art Event In New York This Week: Hank Willis Thomas at Jack Shainman Gallery), Sanford Biggers, and Ross Bleckner (see Which 20 [Famous] Artists Attended Ross Bleckner’s Opening at Mary Boone). Judges include Russel Simmons, John Legend, and Ann Burroughs.

And just what is Manifest Justice? Says the mission statement:

“Communities around the United States and worldwide are filled with good people living in fear. Our city, state and federal spending priorities are broken and institutional bias and racism has eroded trust, access and representation.

“Enough is enough. We demand more empathy, more accountability, more economic opportunity, more compassion, more dignity, more power and more opportunity for all. We demand healthier communities, which means more from each other; more from our school systems and more from our judicial systems.

“The time has come to illuminate our resilience and to take back our streets, our schools, our communities and our hope. Together we must lift our voices, assert our power, be resilient, identify solutions and work together to MANIFEST:JUSTICE. Together we will build a healthier and more just future.

TONIGHT – Friday, May 8 – from 7PM to 10PM, at 3741 S La Brea, Ca, 90016.
