A group of kids are asked to look at two photos — one of one of Caitlyn Jenner presenting as male during the 1976 Olympics and one of Caitlyn Jenner from her recent Vanity Fair shoot – then asked to describe the two people. They describe the former as an athlete with “strong arms” while the latter is seen as a “happy,” calm,” and “confident” woman who is “in charge” and “knows what she’s doing.”
They are then told that the pictures are of the same person. Their reactions will bring tears to your eyes and give you faith in humanity.
“If that’s how she is then that’s fine,” one girls sensibly says.
“Who she wants to be is who she should be,” says another.
One boy empathetically wonders “What if this were happening to me? What if I was the one coming through this?”
Then, they are shown negative reactions to Caitlyn on Twitter and their responses are just as wonderful.
“I think they’re just scared of change and want everything to stay the same because they don’t know how to handle it,” says one. Another adds, “I think it’s partly because the people who are saying [negative things] are afraid to change themselves.”
I guarantee you’ll get a little sniffly watching the video. Afterwards, I thought to myself “yeah, the kids are alright aren’t they? It’s a wonderful world after all.”
Of course, then I made the mistake of reading the YouTube comments. Whatever you do, DO NOT read the YouTube comments.
