Miley Cyrus took her friend Tyler Ford, whom she described as a “queer, biracial agender person,” as her date to the amfAR New York Inspiration gala where she was honored last night. Sharing a photo of Ford, Cyrus wrote: “Meet Tyler, a 24 year old living in New York City, and my date for @amfar tonight!!! Tyler is a queer, biracial, agender person, whose pronouns are they/them/theirs.”
She continued: “Tyler shares about their identity, experiences and hopes saying: ‘My whole life, I was led to believe that there were only two genders. I thought I had to shrink myself to fit into a box that was never going to contain me. It took years for me to find words for my gender identity, and to feel comfortable expressing myself as I am.’”
Cyrus was honored alongside Andy Cohen for their contributions towards AIDS awareness. On Monday, Cyrus launched “#InstaPride,” which highlights the stories of transgender people on Instagram. It’s part of Cyrus’ Happy Hippie Foundation, which was created to increase awareness about the homeless and LBGT communities. (via GossipCop)
Miley is wearing – who else? – Jeremy Scott, the default designer for every popstar on the red carpet these days. Seriously. Does he just troll the streets of Beverly Hills in a tricked-out ice cream truck filled with outfits to give to celebrities? Does he go door-to-door like the Fuller Brush man?
