Today we had the pleasure of meeting British artist Stuart Stanford! The artist behind Sebastian, A statue inspired by Greco-Roman depictions of the youth Antinous, the myth of Narcissus, and the selfie! This fascinating statue is made out of bronze and created using 3D printing technology! Check out photos and read more of Sebastian after the jump!
Stuart showed us two 6 inch versions of Sebastian. One version was painted to look like marble, and the other was a customized version done by Casey Spooner. The materials used on this customized Sebastian are 23 carat gold leaf and Casey Spooner’s semen!
And just so you can really understand the size, here’s Sebastian next to a RuPaul chocolate bar!
Stuart Sanford worked with London-based 3D scanning company Sample & Hold to create Sebastian and it was quite a process! Check out the video of stage one of the process (3D scanning) then head over to the official Sebastian by Stuart Sanford website to read about every step on how to create this statue.
Sebastian Sauvé is the model behind Sebastian. Sauvé is one of the top 50 male models in the world!
Says Stuart Sandford:
His boyish yet masculine appearance coupled with a classical look is ideal for a project that not only takes its inspiration from classical sculpture but also reflects the definition of masculine beauty in the 21st Century.
