To say Donald Trump was less than entertaining on SNL last night would be an understatement. By anyone’s estimation –except Trump’s– he BOMBED! It might be one of the highest rated nights for the comedy staple in a while but it was one of the worst shows in recent memory, devoid of fun or funny. And I’m NOT being overly critical. But Trump relied SNL’s resident Bernie Sanders impersonator, Larry David, yelling from the wings,
“You’re a racist!”
to get his first (and one of the only) big laughs of the night.
The first sketch got to see how the White House might look in 2018 when Donald Trump has POTUS for more than a year. He tweets laws and the president of Mexico drops by to deliver money for that wall Trump promised. Not that funny. Daughter Ivanka joined in but was barely recognized by the audience.
Throughout the rest of the show, Trump pretty much played himself except when he was “laser harp” player and bragging record producer in another laugh-free sketch.
The only really funny thing in the whole show was the parody music video of Drake’s Hotline Bling, where Trump sang and danced.
Bobby Moynihan’s Drunk Uncle hit Trump pretty hard during Weekend Update. Known for his politically incorrect diatribes, he told Colin Jost,
“Finally someone is saying the things I’ve been thinking, as well as saying. I don’t just like him, I love him. He’s going to make America grapes again.
He’s perfect. He’s like a big old beautiful Monopoly man.”
Besides the unfunny host, musical guest Sia, who I really do LOVE, came off as a parody of herself in another absurd wig, giant bow and an annoying woman mock-dancing in both of her so-so performances.
But here… enjoy the Drake parody, so this isn’t a total waste of time. Watch.
