As you might have noticed, today is Marc Jacobs day at the Wow Report. MJ has been showing his love for RuPaul’s Drag Race and it’s time to give this mogul/fashion genius his props. I’m not going to go through his entire career and every collection, it would wear out even the most seasoned fashion journalist, which am most definitely NOT. I know Marc from the old club days back in the 80s – he’s a few years younger than me but he’s been on the scene just about as long. (He once dated my late friend Scott Fritz) He has done countless runway shows for his own label as well as Louis Vuitton and in a full circle twist, is now my neighbor, just 2 blocks away. (FYI, I’m in a tiny studio, he’s in a new Robert Stern townhouse. Funny, I never see him trudging to the subway…?)
We all know he started with Perry Ellis, did his infamous grunge collection which got him fired and really, the rest is HERstory. He’s not doing Vuitton anymore and he’s split from his longtime business partner, Robert Duffy, and he just may be in the process of reinventing himself. (He’s a big art collector. Hello!?) But just have a look, in no particular order a just a FRACTION of the scores of collections he has turned out. He’s own own stateside Karl Lagerfeld. Not every one has been a home run, but job well-done sir. Job WELL DONE.
