Remember Paolo Nutini? The pillow-lipped Scottish crooner had a minor US hit in 2007 with “New Shoes.” Now he’s back with a decidedly darker song and video. The short film for ”Iron Sky” starts with two minutes of grainy, difficult-to-watch documentary footage of junkies, schizophrenics, homeless people, and a man writhing in pain covering his ears. Then the song begins. And what a song it is. That ragged, raspy voice over the soulful musical track, which samples Charlie Chaplin’s speech from The Great Dictator, makes for a gorgeous contrast with director Daniel Wolfe’s images. Completely mesmerizing from start to finish. Aaaaaaand now I want to go smoke some crack.
Here’s Paolo in happier times. My GOD he’s a good-looking bloke.
