We’re literally counting down the hours until the season 8 premiere of Million Dollar Listing: Los Angeles TOMORROW September 2 at 9PM on Bravo! But fear not, because the good folks at TV Guide have put together an interview with #MDLLA star Josh Flagg to hold us over for at least a little while longer! Check it out below.

Season 8 is big for Million Dollar Listing Los Angeles star and uber-broker Josh Flagg. He’s earning bigger commissions. He’s buying a bigger house. And he’s getting into even bigger fights with hotheaded rival Josh Altman. It’s also Flagg’s first full season since the death of his beloved grandmother, fashion entrepreneur Edith. Flagg gives us all the scoop on the feelings and dealings to come.

Who’s your most demanding client this time around?

He’s in the premiere: This kid I went to high school with, whom I didn’t remember. I still don’t know who he was. It’s possible he didn’t actually go to school with me. He could be a serial killer for all I know. He had grand delusions of what his house was.

But he’s not as unbearable as dealing with Josh, right?

Josh is a nightmare every season. We just have completely different styles-in that I’m not a used-car salesman. [Laughs]

Last year you very publicly dealt with the loss of your grandma. What was it like going through that in front of cameras?

It was very difficult. It was also difficult to watch. But people really loved my grandmother, and it would have been strange if we didn’t include that. She was also 94 years old and had a fabulous life. We should all be so lucky.

What got you and longtime boyfriend Colton Thorn to finally buy a house of your own?

You can’t live in a hotel for the rest of your life! Well, you can, but you’d be a little tight for space. We’re probably going to tear down the house that’s there and build something great on the land that both Colton and I will design.

You’re the only broker left from Season 1. How long do you plan on sticking around?

I’ll do this when I’m in a wheelchair, if they want me back.

6 MORE DAYS! 6 MORE DAYS!!!

WOW Exclusive: Watch this 2004 Interview with Wes Craven About the Super Secret Rules of Horror Films

In this WOW exclusive, the brilliant Wes Craven (who passed away Sunday at the age of 76) talks about the reasons for the various clichés in horror movies (i.e. slutty kids die/virgins live, the heroes always ignore the obvious warning signs, the bigger and slower the killer the more likely they are to catch their victim…). The raw footage is from a series WOW did for VH1 called Super Secret Movie Rules in 2004. Check it out below.

From THR:

Wes Craven, the famed maestro of horror known for the Nightmare on Elm Streetand Scream franchises, died Sunday after a battle with brain cancer. He was 76.

Craven, whose iconic Freddy Krueger character horrified viewers for years, died at his home in Los Angeles, his family announced. Survivors include his wife, producer and former Disney Studios vice president Iya Labunka.

Craven’s first feature film was The Last House on the Left, which he wrote, directed and edited in 1972. A rape-revenge movie, it appalled some viewers but generated big box office. Next came another film he wrote and helmed, The Hills Have Eyes (1977).

Craven re-invented the youth horror genre in 1984 with the classic A Nightmare on Elm Street, which he wrote and directed.

He conceived and co-wrote Elm Street III as well, and then after not being involved with other sequels, deconstructed the genre a decade after the original, writing and directing Wes Craven’s New Nightmare, which was nominated for best feature at the 1995 Spirit Awards.
His own Nightmare players, Robert Englund, Heather Langenkamp and John Saxon, portrayed themselves in that film.
In 1996, Craven reached a new level of success with the release of Scream. The film grossed more than $100 million domestically, as did Scream 2 (1997).

Kermit the Frog New Girlfriend

From People:

Kermit, who is still working with Miss Piggy on her late-night talk show Up Late with Miss Piggy – a situation that is being documented on the upcoming ABC series The Muppets – has been spotted around town numerous times with a head of marketing at ABC named Denise, a source tells PEOPLE exclusively.

What do you think?

“She’s always stopping by the set of Up Late,” the source says of Denise. “He calls her his girlfriend,” adds the source.

Miss Piggy seems to not be too bothered with Kermit’s new leading lady because she’s been canoodling with Miley Cyrus‘ ex, Liam Hemworth.

Amidst their lowest series return viewing figures for the X Factor UK there is one very shiny glimmer of hope… the ray of sunshine from downunder Australia star-to-be Seann Miley Moore.

Gracing his very own wrecking ball handbag, massive platform heels, hoop earring and PVC skirt Seann belted out his lungs to perform Freddie Mercury’s classic ballad The Show Must Go On for the best audition of the night, to a massive standing ovation from the judges and audience.

Seann’s Facebook info says it all he is a “Quantuple Threat: Actor, Singer, Dancer, Songwriter, Wannabe Model,” who is working towards his “Best New Artist Grammy’s 2018! DREAM!” You go girl!

“Music has allowed me to be me… It’s very important to express yourself through fashion, through music, through just screaming at the top of your lungs! If it makes you feel happy and right then do it.

Living in Australia, I get a mixture of reactions—people walking in the street looking at you like ‘what the hell is that?’ In London, the people are just like ‘work it!’…I think it’s more accepting.”

Seeing the singer, judge Rita Ora joked:

“Did you go into my wardrobe?!”

Following his incredible audition new judge, gay radio presenter, Nick Grimshaw enthused:

“That was hands down the best thing I’ve seen all day. I loved it, I thought it was 100% you… you’re the person that everyone’s going to talk about tonight!”

Ora added:

“You’ve got so much passion and so much determination and so much individuality… there is nothing I can say to you, apart from I am so happy you came on this show.”

September 2, 1946Billy Preston was one of the absolute greatest keyboard players in pop music & probably the greatest session player of the rock era. Preston is one of several people sometimes referred to by outsiders as the “5th Beatle”. At one point during the 1969 recording sessions for Get Back, John Lennon actually proposed the idea of having him as the official “5th Beatle” (Paul: “It was bad enough with 4 Beatles”) Preston first met The Beatles in 1962 while part of Little Richard‘s touring band. The Beatles manager Brian Epstein (who was gay) had organized a Liverpool show with Little Richard with The Beatles as opening act.

They would meet again in 1969, when The Beatles were on the verge of breaking up during recording their last album to be released, Let It Be (they would later record Abbey Road which was released before to Let It Be). George Harrison had just quit the band & walked out of the studio. He took himself to a Ray Charles concert where Preston was playing organ. Harrison brought Preston back to Apple Studios, where his keen musicianship & gregarious personality calmed the tensions of the Fab Four & the recording continued.

He was born William Everett Preston in Houston, but he grew up in LA. Preston was a child prodigy on piano & organ.  At just 10 years old he was performing in the bands of Gospel singers Mahalia Jackson & Andraé Crouch. When Preston was 12 years old he began a side-career as an actor. He appeared in the film St. Louis Blues (1958) playing composer W.C. Handy as a young man. In the mid-1960s, Preston was a regular on my much loved musical variety series SHINDIG! as a member of the show’s house band.

Preston collaborated with, played keyboards & recorded with: The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Band, Nat King Cole, Barbra Streisand, Little Richard, Eric Burdon, Ray Charles, George Harrison, Elton John, Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan, Sam Cooke, Sammy Davis Jr., Aretha Franklin, The Jackson 5, Quincy Jones, Mick Jagger, Sly Stone, Johnny Cash, Neil Diamond, Red Hot Chili Peppers & Ringo Starr. He played traditional piano, Fender Rhodes electric piano, & the Hammond organ.

Preston was the very first musical guest on the very first show of a brand new TV show Saturday Night Live  on October 11, 1975, along with the still closeted Janis Ian. He wrote Joe Cocker’s biggest hit You Are So Beautiful To Me. His terrific tune Me & Mrs. Jones is in my repertoire & was always a hit in my act. He had a string of solo & duet hits in the 1970s that were so infectious that I can still hear the groovy hooks: Outa-Space, Will It Go Round In Circles & one of my favorite songs of the era Nothing For Nothing. Preston composed & sang the duet with Syreeta Wright With You I’m Born Again which I plan to sing to The Husband when we renew our vows on our 75th anniversary, changing the lyrics to Bored Again.

Preston is the only person to get a songwriting credit with The Beatles.

It was well known in the music industry that Preston was gay, with a penchant for young male hustlers. In summer 1991, Preston was arrested for showing pornographic material to a minor, possessing cocaine & being under the influence of a controlled substance. But, who among us has not? He was fined & served 3 months house arrest. Preston admitted that he could never openly come out because his church & the music industry would have never have continued to support him.

Preston liked his drugs & untimely his drug of choice was crack. It took his life after he began using large amounts after receiving a successful kidney transplant. I think the street cocaine may have been a form of slow suicide. Preston took his final bow in 2006. He was just 59 years old.

Glorious trans icon Candis Cayne sits down with The Hollywood Reporter to talk about her childhood, her early days in New York, her transition, and the impact she’s had on Hollywood. It’s quite a talk. “It’s kind of nice to know I had a part in the turning of the tide by getting on [Dirty Sexy Money], and playing a tue character and a character that audience members could relate to. Then I started going to events in the community, and one night – I can’t remember the event – but they showed a clip of my scene with Donald Sutherland. After the scene the audience stood up and applauded. I realized then, this is so much more than just me getting a part. It was really pushing the fabric of society a little bit more forward.”

#BornThisDay: Actor, Alan Ladd

September 3, 1913Alan Ladd

“If you can figure out my success on the screen, you’re a better man than I.”

In Rebel Without A Cause (1955), Sal Mineo’s character, Plato, opens his school locker & longingly gazes at James Dean reflected in a small mirror. Tucked behind the mirror is a photo of Alan Ladd.

Ladd was the #1 box office star of 1954, the year that I was born. I never understood his appeal until I saw the classic western Shane (1953) in Film Survey class in my early 20s. Ladd was sort of the Tom Cruise of his day, short of stature (5’6’’), intense & deeply closeted. But, Ladd’s cool manner & beautiful deep voice made him especially well-suited for his finest role- movie star.

Ladd worked briefly as a studio carpenter & for a short time he was part of the Universal Pictures studio school for actors. But Universal decided he was too blond & too short, & they dropped him. Ladd began getting small parts on radio shows & on stage during the 1930’s. In the early 1940s he was receiving feature rolls in B movies at independent studios, like Republic. He appears briefly as a reporter in Orson Welles‘ masterpiece Citizen Kane (1941). But, it was his stunning starring turn in the terrific film noir This Gun For Hire (1942) that Ladd was able to join the ranks as one of Hollywood’s hottest male stars. This taut thriller also stars luscious Veronica Lake.  They made 7 films together. She was a perfect match for Ladd at 4’11”.

Throughout the 1940’s, Ladd was a top ranked actor, appearing in all sorts of genres: dramas, westerns, war movies & crime films. Just as his career began to slip, he was cast in the leading role of the George Stevens‘ production of Shane, a role that would put him back way on the top & cement his legacy. The Western is a genre that I really go for & Shane is the greatest Western, says me. The film was nominated for 6 Academy Awards, including Best Picture. It is listed at #4 on the American Film Institute‘s ranking of the 100 Top Films Of All Time. The scene in where Ladd & Van Heflin struggle together, shirtless, to remove a tree stump is Hollywood homo-eroticism at its best.

Ladd was the perfect actor to play the lead in my favorite film version of The Great Gatsby (1949). His performance captures F. Scott Fitzgerald‘s tragic hero with every nuance, every movement, every hidden torment.

In 1942, Ladd married his agent/manager, former actress Sue Carol. Despite Alan Ladd’s fathering 3 children, he frequented hot spots in Hollywood’s gay subculture. He was a regular at gay director George Cukor’s Sunday afternoon pool parties attended by closeted celebrities & attractive young men from the bars & gyms.

His dream role was as gay adventurer  T.E. Lawrence & Ladd lobbied hard for the role when it was announced that a film was to be made in 1962. But, director David Lean rejected the idea, casting Peter O’Toole in Lawrence Of Arabia, a disappointment from which Ladd never recovered.

He may have realized that his time as a leading man was coming to an end, & his closeted gayness might also have contributed to his emotional state at the end of his life. Shortly after his 50th birthday, Ladd was found dead in his Palm Springs home from an overdose of sedatives & alcohol, an apparent suicide. Ironically his last role was that of a washed-up actor in The Carpetbaggers (1964).

His children went on to have careers in show business. David Ladd took up acting & Alan Ladd Jr. is very successful & well-liked in the biz as a film producer & studio executive.

#WeeksWorstIdea: Auschwitz Museum Installs Showers in an (Offensive) Attempt to Cool Off Visitors

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

So, the Auschwitz-Birkenau Memorial and Museum decided to install “misting showers,” recently to “cool off” visitors during a recent heat wave in Poland. For some reason, no one realized that showers were not the best choice of cooling option, given the history of the place and context. Visitors to were outraged at the symbolism when they saw the showers at the front entrance, according to the Jerusalem Post. Meir Bulka told them;

“As a Jew who has lost so many relatives in the Holocaust, they looked like the showers that the Jews were forced to take before entering the gas chambers. All the Israelis felt this was very distasteful… Someone called it a ‘Holocaust gimmick.’”

The temperature in Auschwitz, Poland, was 87 degrees fahrenheit, which doesn’t seem THAT hot really. Pawel Sawicki, a museum spokesman, said the “sprinklers” were NOT showers…

“Because of the extreme heat wave we have experienced in August in Poland, mist sprinklers which cool the air were placed near the entrance to the Museum.”

Opps. Sometimes in our PC culture, “correctness” can be taken TOO far, but this is one instance where anyone with eyes could see this was a BAD idea. They might just as well have passed out hand-held fans printed with Hitler‘s photo and the words;

“NOT A FAN.”

Fashion icon and mother of all things cool in NYC, Patricia Field, launches a new shoe collaboration with what fashion snobs might consider the antithesis of style…Crocs! The fluffy, proprietary nonplastic resin footwear was originally created for comfort, and mostly seen on kids. That ain’t the case anymore. Field has taken it beyond, adding her pop-neon graffiti fonts which serve as a frame for her iconic graphic illustrations by artist Martine.

“My decision to collaborate with Crocs is based on my belief that Crocs’ method of shoe-making is what I call ‘The Shoes of the Future'”, says Field. “This is because the method is high-tech, with a cost efficient manufacturing process, and of course, high durability. I believe that it is a world concept for shoes, and that the molding process will find it’s way into the wearing apparel, revolutionizing the fashion industry.”

LA

September 4, 1781– El Pueblo de Nuestra Señora la Reina de los Ángeles del Río de Porciúncula (The Village of Our Lady, the Queen of the Angels of the river of Porziuncola). Los Angeles & I have history. My father grew up in the Silverlake neighborhood, which at the time was a quiet, nice, but already bohemian neighborhood. When I lived in the city in the early 1970s, Silverlake had deteriorated, but then the gays moved in & fixed things up as they do in most metropolitan areas & now it is inhabited by an eclectic community of hipsters, the creative class, &, of course, lots of gays.

I went happily to college in Los Angeles at Loyola Marymount University. I lived in Playa del Rey, right on the strand. My apartment had sliders that opened to white sand & the Pacific Ocean, with a view of Catalina Island on a clear day, which there were not that many of in the early 1970s. My Los Angeles life, hardly ever involved LA proper. My universe was very “beach” & stretched from Redondo Beach to Malibu. I frequented spots in Venice & Santa Monica. My friends & I would go into Westwood or Hollywood for films & plays, but for the most part it was beach.

Recent archaeological studies show there was a culture in Los Angeles in 8,000 B.C., mostly acting hopefuls trying to be seen by casting directors for the prehistoric version of pilot season. There was much disappointment & a certain amount of violence when it was revealed that film itself was a full 27 centuries away.

By 3,000 B.C. Los Angeles was occupied by the Hokan-speaking people of the Milling Stone Period who could sing, dance, act, & write screenplays, plus gather wild seeds. Los Angeles, along with the rest of Southern California was claimed by Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo for Spain in 1542. By the time the rest of the Europeans arrived in the mid-18th century, there were 250,000 to 300,000 people in LA., all trying to get their SAG cards.

Los Angeles is the second largest city in the USA. It has an area of more than 600 square miles. The urban area extends beyond the administrative city limits with a population of over 20 million humans. It is the 21st largest urban area in the world. Los Angeles the largest city with the highest & lowest (sea level) elevation difference in the world. Native plants include California Poppy, Coast Live Oak, & Xanax.

Although I have always felt the weather is rather perfect, Los Angeles is sadly in its third year of severe drought, maybe you heard. It is also subject to the phenomena of microclimates, with extreme variations in temperature in close physical proximity to each other. The average September maximum temperature in Santa Monica is 75 °F, but it is 95 °F in Canoga Park. The city, like much of the Southern California coast enjoys weather with foggy skies in the morning burning off to sun by early afternoon.

Los Angeles is the largest manufacturing center in the western United States. Los Angeles/Long Beach comprise the largest port in Western North America & fifth busiest port in the world. It is the third largest metropolitan economy on our pretty planet, after Tokyo & NYC.

It is a global city, with 225 different languages spoken including “Agent”, & many ethnic enclaves with cool restaurants throughout the city. It is home for the largest population of people of Middle Eastern heritage outside of, well, The Middle East, with large groups of Armenians & Persians centered near Sunset Boulevard, & the second largest group of Jews in North America. Only 29% of Los Angelinos are white people, yet they make up 98% of the entertainment industry.

Some of the happiest moments of my life have been experienced in LA. I love the city & I have watched the renaissance & turn of neighborhoods that I would never have dreamed possible: Hollywood, Culver City Downtown, Glendale & Venice. When I was there in February, it was simply gorgeous, with blue skies, temps in the 70s, a slight dusting of snow in the Santa Monica Mountains, & lots & lots of pretty people.

Happy Birthday to the City Of Angels. I will always love you: Tommy’s Burgers, Hollywood, The Capitol Record Building, Santa Monica, Laurel Canyon, Griffith Park, Randy’s Donuts, Rodeo Drive, Nate N’ Al’s, Canter’s, La Brea Tar Pits, The Getty, Venice Beach Boardwalk, Union Station, ScientologyWatts Towers, The Chateau MarmontThe Hollywood Roosevelt HotelEl Portal TheatrePalos Verdes, Beverly Hills, Swimming Pools, Movie Stars, World Of Wonder Headquarters.

Everyone should live in Los Angeles at least once in their long life.
