In “What Were They Thinking?” news: Dior announced today that grimy, style-challenged former superstar Johnny Depp will front the campaign for the brand’s new cologne for men. (Their slogan, according to one ONTD commenter, ought to be: “This cologne is so good, it’ll even mask Johnny Depp’s smell!”)

Says their spokesman:

“He has been cinema’s most famous pirate, Jack Sparrow, and the alter ego of the poet William Blake in Dead Man, on the run in the American west. He has been the rookie cop from 21 Jump Street and the bad boy of Cry-Baby; the fantastical creature Edward Scissorhands and a man caught up with the reality of his past in Arizona Dream.

“For three generations of viewers, Johnny Depp is an utterly unique Hollywood icon, capable of taking on all roles, from the most realistic characters to the most fantastic figures dreamed up by Tim Burton, and as comfortable in front of the camera of such cutting-edge auteurs as Emir Kusturica or Jim Jarmusch as he is in global blockbusters like Pirates of the Caribbean. Which new character will this legendary actor be playing for Dior? You’ll have to wait until September to find out!”

Well, OK then. Let’s see how this turns out for you.

Texas has experienced some extreme rain and flooding over the past week so it presumably has something to do with that.

They think either they were looking for dry land or grouping together to escape the the rain which sounded like predators.

Earthworms tend to clump together when making “group decisions,” according to a report several years ago from the BBC.

“We’re still puzzled why they decided to line up in the middle of the road,” Park Superintendent Ben Herman told ABC News. “Even our biologist doesn’t know why they’re spaced so well and in the line.”

The squirmy little things stayed there for 2 days before heading back underground, and no other park in Texas experience similar phenomenon.

Hmmm. Hordes of earthworms makings “group decisions” – I don’t like the sound of THAT.

Set in New York City nightclubs and junkie hangouts, The Darkest Tunnel spends a week in the lives of two young, gay men. Sonny is a South Asian man from New Jersey and aspiring nightclub party promoter with an outlandish fashion sense. Pedro is a drug-addicted art-school dropout who has rejected his parents’ upwardly mobile ambitions. The young men’s chance encounter in a subway tunnel during a fatal stabbing sends Pedro on a guilt-ridden drug binge fueled by prostitution. Pedro’s quest for drugs and money sends him through seedy scenes on Manhattan train tracks and piers. Meanwhile, Sonny refuses to report Pedro’s crime and instead traipses through outrageous nightclubs promoting his big debut as a party promoter. Distracted by his thirst for minor celebrity, Sonny doesn’t realize that Pedro begins stalking him.

Hmmm. An aspiring club promoter with an outlandish fashion sense… drugs… murder… prostitution…. a Tunnel…  Sounds right up my alley. I would be interested if anyone who’s read it has a review they’d like to send to me.

Things are getting a bit trickier for Out NYC Hotel owners Ian Reisner and Mati Weiderpass. After their recent dinner date with anti-gay presidential candidate Ted Cruz, and calling gays ‘cheap’ and ‘entitled’, the partners (who also own most of Fire Island’s gay haunts) felt the wrath of a gay boycott, including the hotel, events scheduled to be held at the hotel and in XL Nightclub, and Fire Island spots The Pavilion, Botel Barracks, Low Tea, High Tea and more.

Now the duo of Hell’s Kitchen have been slapped with a lawsuit by four former employees alleging discrimination and withheld pay, on behalf of specific plaintiffs and “all others similarly-situated.” Basically, they are saying that they didn’t get all their tips and overtime pay. Plus, two of the complainants Donald Shorter (Broadway dancer in A Chorus Line/La Cage Aux Folles) and James Stress allege discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity. The suit goes on to say that Stress and Shorter, who worked as servers at KTCHN in the hotel, were subjected “to a hostile work environment” and “disparate treatment” that led “to their constructive discharge.”

“We were the only two men working at  KTCHN who outwardly presented as feminine at work and who did not adhere to masculine stereotypes.”

Of course you know what happens next — their drive for power eats away at them and things go tragically wrong. What we see of the movie here is dark, sexy, and intense, like Game of Thrones with Shakespearean dialogue. And maybe JUST MAYBE we’ll see some of that Thane of Cawdor peen!

Says Time:

Justin Kurzel’s Macbeth, starring Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard, is no modern Shakespearean interpretation a la the Ethan Hawke Hamlet, but the new trailer proves how it may be radical in its own right.

The trailer has Shakespeare’s language spoken in almost-whispers, yet the starkly brutal imagery takes center stage. Mist and fire abounds, though this movie is not being sold with “double, double toil and trouble” and witches.

Kurzel’s interpretation of Shakespeare’s ambitious murderer has already received praise following its premiere at Cannes. The Guardian noted that “this is not the traditional stage Macbeth, crammed into claustrophobic interior spaces. It is conceived in (and almost dwarfed by) a vast Scottish plain, like Peter Jackson’s Middle Earth.” The Telegraph wrote that Fassbender and Cotillard give “cosmically powerful performances,” while Variety called the movie “fearsomely visceral and impeccably performed.”

The movie is scheduled for an October release in the U.K.

I spoke to beardy hunk Reynolds Engelhart the other day via Skype connection, about the trauma he endured after season six of RuPaul’s Drag Race, when it seemed everybody and their brother had an opinion about Magnolia Crawford – none of them good. He says;

“I did perform a little as Magnolia after my season ended, but drag – or rather Magnolia – is a hobby, and after the season it stopped being fun, so I stopped doing her.”

A Family Guy clip from 2009 which appears to predict Caitlyn Jenner‘s gender transition has gone viral. In it, Stewie and Brian see Brody Jenner and comment on what a giant douchebag he is. “Ugh,” says Stewie. “I can’t believe he came out of Bruce Jenner‘s vagina,” When Brian points out that Bruce Jenner is a man, Stewie sighs and says  “No, Brian. That’s what the press would have you believe. Bruce Jenner is a woman. An elegant, beautiful, Dutch woman.”

Two years later, Jenner appeared on the show once again as an overtly feminine, dancing model for a group of horny sailors. “Just wanted to remind you fellas what you’re all fighting for,” Peter Griffin says in the clip.

Of course, rumors about Caitlyn have been floating around since the early ’90s. But, as Mediate wonders, “did Seth MacFarlane and the rest of the Family Guy writers actually know something the rest of the public didn’t? Or were they just inferring something about Jenner’s gender based on appearance and affect alone? While the joke may have seemed harsh at the time, in retrospect it is remarkably prescient.”

Supermodel and trans icon Andreja Pejic recently spoke to Fashionista about makeup, her place in the fashion industry, and, of course, Caitlyn Jenner.

When asked what advice she’d give to everybody’s favorite new starlet, she said: “I doesn’t necessarily think Jenner needs much help in the beauty department. I think she’s doing a pretty good job. I think she looks beautiful,” she said. But: “You’re going to make mistakes. It’s all fun, it’s part of being a girl and trying new things. I’ve certainly made plenty of mistakes!” Like what? “Before I really learned how to sculpt my eyes I would go a bit too crazy with the eyeliner or I would try and create a smoky look but it wouldn’t have any dimension and it would be too high up,” she said. “And I would sometimes do this really strong contour, but with me it was a bit much because I already have defined cheeks. It’s been a learning process.”

So…. here’s hoping Caitlyn never makes the mistake of creating a smoky eye without dimension! Thank you for your input, Andreja!

The Television Critics Association has announced the nominations for the 31st Annual TCA Awards! And in the category of Outstanding Achievement In Reality Programming, RuPaul’s Drag Race is nominated (again)! We’re in great company. Other nominees are: The Amazing Race, The Chair, Dancing with the Stars, and Shark Tank!

The 2015 TCA Awards recognize outstanding television programming in the 2014-2015 season, honoring actors, producers and programs in a variety of categories, including news and information, youth, reality, drama and comedy. The winners of the 31st Annual TCA Awards will be announced at the invitation-only presentation on Saturday, August 8, 2015, at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, as part of the group’s bi-annual industry conference, the summer press tour.

We were thrilled to win last year (remember when Mama Ru showed off her award in the Despy Awards episode of season 7?!) and we’re sure we have a great shot for a repeat this year!

The times they are a-changing! After 50+ years of wearing sky-high stilettos (and having a permanently angled foot), Mattel is introducing a “Fashionista” line for Barbie, which includes both high heeled shoes and flat-soled footwear. More importantly, the new doll will have articulated ankles so that she doesn’t have to walk around on her tippy-toes any longer, poor dear.

From CTV News:

[The makers] figured it only made sense that the new “Film Director Barbie” would wear “running-around-the-set flats.” Don’t worry though, she can still put on a pair of heels for the movie premiere, the ad reads.

Another ad, for “Pink Petals Barbie,” features “an amazing pair of silver flats and the perfect matching silver bag.”

In a YouTube video promoting the new line, the animated dolls are seen wearing everything from hot pink heels to white running shoes.

The feet aren’t the only changes Mattel is making with the Barbie line. The toymaker is said to be releasing new models with a variety of skin tones, eye and hair colours as well as different body shapes and sizes.

It’s all your favorite Disney princess – Eric! Philip! Aladdin! Charming! – reimagined as queer by the artist YANN-X. Huffington Post editor James Michael Nichols sat down with him to discuss the origin of these images and see what he’s trying to accomplish with them.

The Huffington Post: Why did you decide to start making these images?
YANN’X: My first childhood memory was going to the movie theater with my dad to watch “Snow White.” I was three years old and it hit me like a truck, because Prince Charming — so gentle, yet so manly — thrilled me in a way I never felt before. I had fallen in love! From this moment on I dreamt of becoming an artist (and work for Disney, of course!). Years later, artists like Joe Phillips or David Kawena inspired me anew with their radiant vision of a gay life, as normal and happy as a straight one… and no matter how idealistic, I wanted to be a part of this.

Let’s be clear: naked Disney characters are nothing new. Everyone can do (or has done) it, but it’s not what I’m into. What I’m trying instead is to take highlights of our pop culture and show them from another point of view. Twisting well-known situations can be quite unsettling for people but I enjoy it. That’s what I’m aiming for. So if it moves you or makes you smile, then I’ve done my job well. Love it or hate it, I’m fine with both, for the worst would be to leave you cold. But when I use nudity, it’s never as a shock value — things should be sexy, funny, not pornographic. It’s a matter of honor.

Are you trying to subvert traditional Disney storylines and values through these photos?
I’m not trying to subvert! I’m just showing these characters in a new light, thus suggesting to look at life in a different way. People are free to try or not, I’m not forcing anyone.

Of course, Disney characters are icons of our collective memory, so tapping that source is like using a universal language — it’s a way to make sure everyone will get my message. So, I give these characters a private life, let them flirt, make love or have fun, not for cheap thrills but as a way to reflect on our feelings and intimacy.

I also often pictured them as real actors whose lives had little to do with their parts, and I wondered what happened once their scene or the movie was over… But yes: in my imagination, they’d shed their perfect image and dump their princess girlfriends to fool around with the other boys.
