#Scandal: Virtually NONE of the Women on Ashley Madison.com Ever Used the Site!

$

o-ASHLEY-MADISON-facebookAshley Madison CEO Noel Biderman stepped down this week in the wake of the hacked leak that exposed information on everyone from Josh Duggar, to family evangelist Sam Rader and on and on. But the biggest scandal of all seems to be there were virtually NO WOMEN on AshleyMadison.com. Gizmodo published a survey on the women of the site that suggests very few of the female accounts on the site were held by real women.

Nearly all of the accounts attributed to women on the site were likely fake accounts run by employees of the company, and if there were really women cruising the site, they rarely ever opened their inboxes. Out of 5.5 million female accounts, roughly zero percent had ever shown any kind of activity at all after the day they were created.

The men’s accounts tell a story of lively engagement with the site, with over 20 million men hopefully looking at their inboxes, and over 10 million of them initiating chats. The women’s accounts show so little activity that they might as well not be there. According to Gizmodo;

Ashley Madison employees did a pretty decent job making their millions of women’s accounts look alive. They left the data in these inactive accounts visible to men, showing nicknames, pictures, sexy comments. But when it came to data that was only visible on to company admins, they got sloppy. The women’s personal email addresses and IP addresses showed marked signs of fakery. And as for the women’s user activity, the fundamental sign of life online? Ashley Madison employees didn’t even bother faking that at all.

The bottom line, the over 31 million men on the site looking to have affairs weren’t even close because the women barely existed at all. THAT’S big-time cheating the cheaters!

The strangest thing about Donald Trump being on top of the polls for a full month now is that apart from his plan to build a wall to keep Mexicans out, we know absolutely nothing about what he would do as President. Usually people running for President tell us what they would do if they got the job, but Donald Trump has a MUCH broader approach. Now, finally a campaign ad that is THE BEST! Jimmy Kimmel premiered the other night. Watch.

#BornThisDay: Actor, Joan Blondell

blondell

August 30, 1906Joan Blondell was one of the most versatile & enduring stars of The Golden Age Of Hollywood. She never reached the very top of the firmament like Bette Davis, Joan Crawford or Katherine Hepburn, but Blondell had a career for more than 50 years. She worked in at least 90 films & as a guest or regular on dozens of TV shows. She is one of those actors who were able to move gracefully from leading roles to supporting player, from showgirl to character actor.

Filmgoers in the 1930s identified with her blue-collar image. Blondell was born in a vaudeville family in NYC. Growing up, her family act traveled from city to city practically living in cheap hotels or sleeping in train stations.

Her look & demeanor made her perfect for shop girls, clerks & molls. Her working class characters were so spot on that Blondell could never really convincingly play a society lady.  She was at her best as the gum smacking doll ready with a wisecrack on any occasion. For me, she still conjures up the ideal of a hard luck dame who has no time for self-pity, the tough talking best friend everybody needs.

Blondell was sexy without being vulgar. When she portrays cynical gold-diggers, the Blondell character always comes across as loyal & decent when decency is least expected.

With her big round eyes, chubby cheeks, trademark beauty mark, & generous smile, Blondell came across as approachable & thoroughly American. She was just the opposite of Greta Garbo or Marlene Dietrich, exotic creatures with symmetrical faces, so perfect, with their sharp cheekbones, seemingly unworldly. But, she was pretty enough to be in much demand to endorse popular beauty products.

Unlike Barbara Stanwyck, Blondell stated that she never fought hard for better roles or a higher salary. Other actors waged bitter battles with the studio chiefs over contracts, money & better scripts. James Cagney went on strike. Bette Davis went to Europe. Olivia De Havilland changed the Hollywood system forever when she fought & ultimately won a lawsuit against her contract at Warner Bros. that included the notorious suspension clause.

Blondell simply liked working as an actor, glad for that weekly salary, owning a house & an automobile; the things denied her as a child. But, she worked hard for her money, often making more than 6 films a year.

“I never got away from that little salary, never did. I didn’t fight enough. You know, they’d bring in other studio stars for Warner pictures & I’d say: ‘Oh, you know I could have done that. Doggonit, why didn’t they give it to me?’ But I just didn’t put up a fight career wise. I didn’t even see the stuff I was in at the time. I just went home & skipped it all, from the rushes to the premiers. Every day was filled with work & my only relief was to get home.”

“We made films so fast & furiously: go in & do it & the next day start a new one. I just did it. During the Depression I was making more than 6 pictures year. I made 6 pictures carrying my son & 8 with my daughter. They’d get me behind desks & behind barrels & throw tables in front of me to hide my growing tummy. I never had more than 2 weeks off before starting a picture. I mean, just let me have the poor child & get back to work. The only other kind of vacation I had was in the middle of a picture with Pat O’Brien called Back In Circulation (1937) when my appendix broke. They took me to the hospital. Well, I was very near the end of that picture & about to start another, so they wanted me out of the hospital & the doctor said: ‘She can’t get out of this hospital.’ So they made a deal with the doctor to take me by stretcher to my house, & they had the set designer come & make it look like the bedroom Pat & I had done a scene in, & they got a crew of 60, sound & everything, & changed the end of the story so that I was sick in bed & that I’d marry Pat or something.”

Blondell’s casual remarks about her children are ironic. Her third husband, Mike Todd Jr. described her as the most maternal woman he had ever known. He claimed that even when she was working in a film, she’d come home, cook, clean & make sure that the baby went to bed on time.

Her first husband was cinematographer George Barnes, who was adamant about not having any offspring. He was abusive & insisted she have several abortions. After she had a son, he divorced her. That son, Norman S. Powell, became an accomplished producer, director, studio executive. He was officially adopted by her second husband, actor, singer, director Dick Powell. They had a daughter, Ellen Powell, who became a noted studio hair stylist. Powell left Blondell for fellow blond star June Allyson.

The marriage to Todd, her third, was an emotional & financial disaster. Todd smacked her around & once held her outside a hotel window by her ankles. He lost millions of dollars gambling & they went through a controversial bankruptcy. This time Blondell left him. Todd moved on to Evelyn Keyes & then tossed Keyes aside for Elizabeth Taylor. Got that straight?

Blondell gives a slightly fictionalized telling of her life in her well-written novel, Center Door Fancy (1972). It gives an account of her lonely, vaudeville childhood & big break in films. In the novel, Blondell portrays Powell as an insufferable narcissist, hopelessly cheap, & a dreadful racist & anti-Semite. Todd comes across as a total tool & horndog.

She received an Academy Award nomination The Blue Veil (1951). I think Blondell was especially good in A Tree Grows In Brooklyn (1945), Nightmare Alley (1947), & Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter? (1957). In The Opposite Sex (1956),an unnecessary musical remake of the classic The Women (1939), Blondell is paired with her ex-husband Powell’s wife, June Allyson.

I saw her just last week in a terrifically funny & sly performance in Norman Jewison‘s The Cincinnati Kid (1965), & as a cynical, aging playwright in John Cassavetes’ wonderful Opening Night (1977).

I am especially fond of her work in the demented mystery Pre-Code film Night Nurse (1931) opposite Stanwyck & directed by William Wellman.

If any of you kids are old enough, an entire generation knows Blondell for playing Lottie, a bawdy Seattle saloon owner, in the TV comedy western Here Come The Brides (1968-71) or for her witty bit in the musical Grease (1978).

Blondell’s final credits rolled on Christmas Day 1979, taken by that damn cancer at 73 years old. She is buried at one of my favorite spots in LA, Forest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

Blondell is proof that the best kept secret about The Golden Age Of Hollywood is how hard people worked.

Miley with RPDR's Season 7 finalists

Miley with RPDR’s Season 7 finalists

Full Disclosure: Yes, I do write for The Wow Report, but I really have no inside knowledge about what RuPaul’s Drag Race queens do. Swear. But if you pay attention to the internet buzz and rumors, SOMETHING is up with Miley Cyrus and the VMAs. Miley is of course hosting tonight and Inquisitor is reporting juicy details about it;

For weeks now among Drag Race’s devoted fan base, concentrated most strongly at the show’s subreddit. As it’s also rumored that the show’s All Stars 2 season is currently being filmed, many wondered how some of the show’s hottest competitors could miss out on a such a huge press event like the VMAs. After several of the rumored queens returned to social media suddenly, it seemed certain that Cyrus would be pulling from RuPaul’s stock of girls.

Through chats on Periscope and various probing on the queens’ social media accounts, Miley pulling out the cast of gender-bending entertainers is practically set in stone. Drag Race’s presence at the 2015 VMAs has also been confirmed by Hollywood Life, where an anonymous source revealed a little of what viewers should be expecting to see during Miley’s final number on Sunday.

“During her performance she will have 30 drag queens. Balloons and streamers will also drop… Miley is dead set on providing a MTV VMAs that people won’t stop talking about. She’ll be outrageous, funny and really push the envelope as long as it shocks people.”

Other rumors have also been circulating about Drag Race Season 7 winner Violet Chachki coming along as Cyrus’ date, though it’s still uncertain if any queen will walk the red carpet.

This all sounds exciting, huh? But is it true? I guess we’ll find out together in a dozen hours or so. WOW’s Nigel Zeff will be live Tweeting the show @worldofwonder and those will also pop up on Wow’s Facebook page. Tomorrow, I’ll have a recap with the highlights and all the winners. Will you be watching? (via Inquisitor)

#BornThisDay: Richard Gere

gere 2

August 31, 1949- Richard Gere studied Philosophy at the University Of Massachusetts, but he had hoped for a career as musician. But, he did go on to have an impressive stage resume. In the early 1970s, Gere landed the role of Danny Zuko in the musical Grease in London & he received rave reviews for an off-Broadway performance in Sam Shepard’s solo play Killer’s Head (1975), sitting in an electric chair, blindfolded, with his hands & torso tied to the chair. He starred in the gay-themed Nazi drama Bent on Broadway in 1980.

He gets a bum rap in my circle of friends, plenty of snarky stuff on that Internet thing, plus there are those dreadful homophobic gerbil jokes to endure, but I have always dug Gere & thinking about him this morning, I easily remember plenty of exceptionally good performances, if no truly great ones. I think his Billy Flynn in the film version of the musical, Chicago (2002), comes awfully close to greatness. But, like most of Gere’s career, my peeps are divided on what I consider to be one the very best adaptations of a Broadway musical to film.

Gere made quite an impression on me the first time I saw him on screen in his career breakthrough in the dramatic thriller Looking For Mr. Goodbar (1977) starring Diane Keaton.

He hit his groove when he had the title role in American Gigolo (1980). His performance was personification of stylish smooth & cool. He became Hollywood’s go-to romantic male lead with his performance in An Officer & A Gentleman (1982) opposite Debra Winger.

Early Gere fills my mind with the good stuff in one the greatest films of the 1970s, Terrence Malick’s Days Of Heaven (1978), & gay director John Schlesinger’s Yanks (1979). The middle period Gere has terrific work in & The Band Played On (1993), Primal Fear (1996), & Robert Altman’s underrated DR.T & THE WOMEN (2000). But, I like him best as a silver fox, reminding me somewhat of my husband. I understand that the original Japanese film is much better, but I found Gere to be heartbreaking in Shall We Dance? (2004); jumpy & convincingly conniving in The Hoax (2006) as the infamous writer Clifford Irving, & strong, smart & improbable, as Bob Dylan in gay director Todd Hayne’s crazy I’m Not There (2007).

Throughout his career, Gere has devoted much of his time to social & political causes. He is a longtime practicing Buddhist. Gere co-founded the Tibet House in 1987 & serves as the chairman of the board for the International Campaign For Tibet, plus his own Gere Foundation, all dedicated to help human rights in Tibet & support the Dalai Lama. He also works tirelessly for HIV-AIDS charities, especially in India. Gere has spoken openly about his affection for his gay brother & he has been a long advocate foe Marriage Equality. I always gave him props for ignoring those gay rumors instead if denying them. Gere:

“It’s nobody’s business but mine who I’m fucking, who I’m not fucking. The rack sheets, the press blurbs, the gossip pages, it’s all crap. & in an interview, there are just so many different levels to respond to. They can’t possibly understand my deepest emotions.”

Anti-War Activist, Film & Theatre Actor, Pianist, Civil Rights Activist, Philanthropist, Catskills Inn Keeper, the newly single Gere celebrates his 66th birthday today, hopefully without a small rodent. Don’t you swoon just a bit at the glance of a photo of Gere?

#RIP: Writer, Director, Wes Craven

Wes Craven, the famed writer-director of horror films, died Sunday after a battle with brain cancer. He was 76.

The Last House of the Left, was Craven’s first feature, which he wrote, directed and edited but really reinvented the youth horror genre in 1984 with the classic A Nightmare on Elm Street, which he also wrote and directed. Craven claimed to have gotten the idea for Elm Street when living next to a cemetery on a street of that name when growing up in the suburbs of Cleveland. Five of his Elm Street films were released from 1984-89.

In 1996 Craven reached a new level of success with the release of Scream (which sparked the trilogy) grossing more than $100 million domestically, as did Scream 2 (1997).

In 1999, Craven completed his first novel, The Fountain Society. He again pushed his genre boundaries with the 2005 psychological thriller, Red Eye, starring Rachel McAdams, Cillian Murphy and Brian Cox. He had recently signed a TV deal and had a number of TV projects in development including The People Under the Stairs with Syfy Networks and he was executive producing the new Scream series for MTV.

Craven had an eye for discovering fresh talent too. While casting Elm Street, he discovered a young Johnny Depp and he cast Sharon Stone in her first starring role, for his film Deadly Blessing (1981). He also gave Bruce Willis his first featured role in an episode of the 1980s version of The Twilight Zone.

Craven was a longtime summer resident of Martha’s Vineyard, where he moved permanently three years ago before returning to LA for work and health reasons. He was a big nature lover and committed bird conservationist, serving as a longtime member of the Audubon California Board of Directors. He penned a monthly column, “Wes Craven’s The Birds,” for Martha’s Vineyard Magazine. (via THR)

Jeremy Scott's redesigned Moon Man

Jeremy Scott’s redesigned Moon Man

Well, Miss Miley Cyrus hosting the VMAs was anything but boring. Nicki Minaj started off the show performing on her own and then with Taylor Swift and finally embracing her and making nice. But Miley had made comments about Nicki’s (now-resolved) Twitter spat with Taylor in the press and Nicki, after winning for Best Hip-Hop Video, wasted no time throwing some shade Miley’s way, that was none too subtle…

“And now, back to this bitch that had a lot to say about me the other day in the press – Miley what’s good?”

To which Miley said that Nicki shouldn’t be upset for not being nominated for Video of the Year.

“Hey, we’re all in this industry, we all do interviews, and we all know how they manipulate shit…. Nicki, congratulations!”

Nicki then stepped away from her mic and said “don’t play with me, bitch” a few times. (Was this all part of the script? Didn’t look like it to me.) OK, then. We are off to a FINE start!

Miley did a fine job recovering from that and hosting all night, changing outfits 50 times, it seemed. During the opening monologue, she noted that the VMAs hadn’t…

“had a host for the last two years: a tradition they’ll probably return to immediately following tonight’s show. Now, I have literally done everything on the VMAs stage, and none of it showed that I was qualified to host, but here we are.”

She also confessed that her selfies are a lot of hard work in one of several funny pre-taped comedy bits (which gave her time to change). She made hosting look easy but as you might guess, it is anything but. (Butt?)

Taylor cleaned up (as always) winning Video of the Year, Best Female Video, Best Collaboration (with Kendrick Lamar) and Best Pop Video. She thanked Kendrick and her video co-stars onstage with her…

“There are two women in the video who I’ve named cats after. I love them so much. There’s been a lot of discussion this video and what it means, but I’m just happy that, in 2015, we live in a world where boys can play princesses, and girls can play soldiers.”

It was Taylor’s turn AGAIN, presenting the Video Vanguard award to Kanye West, who infamously crashed her 2009 VMAs acceptance speech.

“I first met Kanye West six years ago — at this show actually! Since then, we’ve had a lot of time to talk about a lot of different things.”

He the turned his acceptance speech (after a VERY long applause break, that he seemed to REALLY milk) into a rambling excuse for his behavior. West said,

“You know how many times MTV ran that footage again, ’cause it got them more ratings? You know how many times they said Taylor was going to give me the award, because it got them more ratings? I still don’t understand award shows. I just wanted people to like me more. But fuck that, bro! I will die for the art, for what I believe in. And the art ain’t always gonna be polite.”

After going on for what seemed like FORVER he finally said,

“And yes, as you probably could have guessed by this moment, I have decided, in 2020, to run for president.”

Mic drop. Top THAT!?

Well, for me, several actual performances did. Jared Leto, who confessed he is apparently made REALLY horny by The Weekend introduced “Can’t Feel My Face”. The Weekend is EVERYWHERE right now and his star has been rising but last night, he stepped up and smashed it. He had Kanye dancing in the aisles along with Taylor Swift and half the crowd.

2015 MTV Video Music Awards - Fixed Show

There were also rousing performances outside of “Downtown” by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis (who has a WEIRD new look?) Demi Lovato, who sang, “Cool for the Summer” (with a cameo by Iggy Azalea) and Pharrell who performed “Freedom”.

Justin Bieber had a comeback of sorts, performing at the VMAs for the first time in 5 years which at 21 is FOREVER. After singing, dancing and the musical questions, “Where Are You Now?” and “What Do You Mean?” he flew up in the air, literally, landed, and had a little emotional moment there for a second.

IMG_7841

IMG_7852

But the show stopper had to be Miley’s much-rumored finalé with the RuPaul’s Drag Race girls! Those costumes were amazing and the queens TURNT IT OUT! There was Delta Work, Courtney Act, Tammie Brown, Carmen Carrera, Shangela, Laganja Estranja (doing a killer death drop!), Willam, Pearl, Miss Fame, Violet Chachki, Alyssa Edwards (right up front!), Victoria “Porkchop” Parker (who got a big fat close-up), Pandora Box, Alexis Mateo and on and on… 30 in all. THAT was EVERYTHING and then some. The song, “Dooo It!” Miley announced is FREE along with her whole new album, “Miley Cyrus and Her Dead Petz”. She gave away her album?! Oh, kids. If that whole shebang wasn’t entertaining enough for you, then you ARE cynical.

Step aside, Jonah Falcon! There’s a new record-holding giant weiner in town: Roberto Esquivel Cabrera of Saltillo, Mexico whose penis is reportedly 48.2 centimeters (nearly 19 inches) long and the tip’s circumference is 25 centimeters (nearly 10 inches) – and, poor thing, it’s making him MISERABLE.

“Look where it is, it goes far below the knees,” Mr Cabrera sobbed to the press this past weekens. “I cannot do anything, I cannot work, and I am disabled so I want authorities to declare me as a disabled person and give me support.”

His social life is dismal as well, he says as women are too scared to be with him, so he had never had a long-term girlfriend, let alone a wife. (Although I’m sure he’s getting plenty of offers from the boys right about now…)

Saya AustralianNews.com:

In 2011 Mr Cabrera was deported from US to Saltillo in the north-eastern Mexican state of Coahuila, where he lives alone in a room given to him by his brothers. He survives on social assistance and scavenges for food and materials on waste dumps. He has no friends and says people “shun” him wherever he goes.

Before his record was made official, Mr Cabrera had a medical examination and X-ray of his phallus to support his application for disability. Doctors at a medical institution in Saltillo have confirmed the scan is genuine, The Mirror reported.

Some experts have suggested Mr Cabrera consider a shaft reduction operation but it is not clear what his thoughts are on the subject.

The previous record holder for penis length was an American called Johan Falcon, whose 13.38 inch manhood (34cm) was dwarfed by Mr Cabrera’s.

And here’s some interesting food for thought, to help you get a visual on the size of his dong: At 19 inches, Roberto’s penis is two-inches shorter than the world’s smallest man! Mr Cabrera’s story and struggle for help is to be published in a book called El Sordido Pudor, which translates as “Sordid Shyness”.

September 1, 1939Lily Tomlin:

“Reality is a crutch for people who can’t cope with drugs.”

I was floating on air for months after my most excellent Seattle friend of 30 years, Laura, called me on a spring morning with this Lily Tomlin anecdote. Laura has done a great deal of volunteer work for the City Park Department in Seattle. In 2002 she was co-chairing a benefit starring Tomlin & she had the opportunity to chat with this comedy icon.

I have no idea how or why my name came up, but when my Seattle friend mentioned me, Tomlin told her how funny she & her partner (now wife) Jane Wagner found my performance in the film Singles (1992). It appeared that my small role really cracked-up this remarkable couple & that they had fun imitating me doing my lines from the film. Tomlin then proceeded to do her imitation of me for my friend. The Husband & I were over the moon that one of our most favorite performers of all time was doing an imitation of me, Stephen. As I type this, I still think how cool that moment was for me.

Tomlin is one of the most loved women in Show Biz. In a 45+ year career, Tomlin has won 2 Tony Awards, 2 Peabodys, 6 Emmys, a Grammy, the Drama Desk Award & Outer Critics Circle Award, plus the Mark Twain Prize For American Humor. Last year she was given The Kennedy Center Honor. That’s quite the award’s shelf. Tomlin may add to that collection. She is nominated for an Emmy Award at the ceremony on September 20th.

Tomlin was raised in Detroit & she claims she always wanted to be a performer. She began plays at school & moved to doing stand-up in Detroit before moving to NYC.

“When I was growing up I always wanted to be someone. Now I realize I should have been more specific.”

In 1969, I first discovered Tomlin when she joined NBC‘s crazy sketch comedy series Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In where she introduced many of her famous characters including: the irascible, prune-faced telephone operator Ernestine; the precocious sandbox philosopher, 6 year old Edith Ann in an oversize rocking chair; & The Tasteful Lady, imperious & upper class, who never fails to puncture her own pretense.

“Forgiveness means giving up all hope for a better past.”

Tomlin was nominated for an Oscar for her amazing heartbreaking performance in Robert Altman’s Nashville (1975), one of my all-time favorite films. Other best Tomlin performances: The Late Show (1977) opposite Art Carney, 9 To 5 (1980) with 2 other women, I forget their names, All Of Me (1980) with Steve Martin, & Flirting With Disaster (1996).

It took me about 4 episodes to ease in to the divorce comedy Grace & Frankie, the Netflix series produced by & starring Tomlin & Jane Fonda, but once I got its tone & rhythm, I found it delightful, smart & sometimes cathartic. Sticking it out to episode 5 proved very rewarding

“No matter how cynical you get, it is impossible to keep up.”

This week, Tomlin’s new film, her first leading role in 27 years, Grandma, opened to rapturous reviews & Oscar buzz for Tomlin. She plays a famous lesbian feminist poet in the movie, written & directed by Paul Weitz, whose resume includes such diverse projects as About A Boy (2002), In Good Company (2004), American Pie (1999).

Tomlin met her talented wife, Wagner, in 1971. After catching the After-School Special J.T. written by Wagner, Tomlin invited her to collaborate on Tomlin’s comedy album And That’s The Truth. The couple have been together ever since. Tomlin:

“I certainly never called a press conference or anything like that. Back in the 1970s, people didn’t write about it. Even if they knew, they would refer to Jane as ‘Lily’s collaborator’, things like that. Some journalists are just motivated by their own sense of what they want to say or what they feel comfortable saying or writing about. In 1977, I was on the cover of Time. The same week I had a big story in Newsweek. In one of the magazines it says I live alone, & the other magazine said I live with Jane Wagner. Unless you were so really adamantly out, & had made some declaration at some press conference, people back then didn’t write about your relationship. In 1975 I was making the Modern Scream album, & Jane & I were in the studio. My publicist called me & said: ‘Time will give you the cover if you’ll come out.’ I was more offended than anything that they thought we’d make a deal. But that was 1975. It would have been a hard thing to do at that time. Everybody in the industry was certainly aware of my sexuality & of Jane. In interviews I always referenced Jane & talked about Jane, but they didn’t always write about it.”

The couple have been together 44 years, & they married on New Year’s Eve 2013. They live in LA in a big pink stucco house that was once owned by vaudevillian & early comic film star W.C. Fields.

“I wanted to be acknowledged for my work. I didn’t want to be that gay person who does comedy.”

#LGBTRights: Gay Marriage Opponent Kim Davis Denied By The Supremes! What Next?

The ever-persistent, lovely and charming Rowan County Clerk, Kim Davis, has suffered yet ANOTHER legal setback. (I can hear the crowd moaning) Late yesterday the US Supreme Court denied an emergency request from Davis to continue to not issue marriage licenses to any couples – gay or straight – as she continues her legal battle in a lower federal court. Davis has refused to issue marriage licenses from her Kentucky office since the Supreme Court’s June 26 ruling that made same-sex legal in all 50 states. The court issued its denial without any comment.

Steven R. Shapiro, legal director of the American Civil Liberties Union, said in a statement;

“Today the U.S. Supreme Court resoundingly affirmed that government officials must carry out the duties of public office.

Davis has no basis for any further delay in denying couples the freedom to marry.”

The ACLU is suing Davis on behalf of four couples – two gay and two straight – who have been denied licenses by her office. All eyes will be on the Rowan County Clerk’s office today as there will no doubt be couples seeking marriage licenses. If they are refused, this could result in Davis being held on contempt of court charges.

Everyone keeps saying, “Fire her ass!” Well kids, they can’t or I’m sure they would have already. Citing her “religious beliefs” guarantees her all sorts of rights, as it should, but she’s run out of options it seems. This could get ugly. Oh, TOO LATE! Stay tuned… (via Gay Star News)

CEO Defends RentBoy.com: We Don’t “Promote Prostitution” “We Bring Good People Together”

RentBoy.com CEO Jeffrey Hurrant

RentBoy.com CEO Jeffrey Hurrant

Rentboy.com CEO Jeffrey Hurant defended his business last week after being arrested by federal authorities on money laundering and prostitution charges. Hurant told reporters outside federal court in Manhattan.

“I don’t think that we do anything to promote prostitution. I think we do good things for good people, and we bring good people together.”

Rentboy.com describes itself as…

“The Original & World’s Largest Male Escort Site”

Hurant could be sentenced up to five years in prison and fined up to $250,000, if convicted. The company had more than $10 million in gross proceeds in the past five years. More than $1.4 million has been seized from six bank accounts in connection with the investigation. The criminal complaint calls the site’s disclaimer a ruse:

“This site may not be used for the advertising of sexual services or to engage in activities requiring the payment of money for sex or other illegal activities.”

It details several profiles of male escorts which included reviews of their sexual performance and details about which sexual acts took place and how much was paid. Does, sound like prostitution in the legal sense, not that there’s anything wrong with it. But this has been going on out in the open for YEARS and there are scores if not hundreds of “straight” escort sites – so why RentBoy? And why now?

Penelope Saunders, coordinator for the Best Practices Policy Program (BPPP), a sex worker advocacy group that develops policy and facilitates research, told ThinkProgress.

“These arrests are taking place against the backdrop in Amerca where it is entirely clear that the police’s relationship with people of color [involves] incredible violence and that environment is true for sex workers.

This is a high-profile case sitting on a mountain of evidence that no one cared about because [the perception that] sex workers lives don’t matter. But sex workers’ lives DO matter. The trafficking and abuse of women is so normalized it doesn’t make the papers…. [Rentboy] is really blowing the lid off of this because this is men having sex men.”

“Money laundering” is cited and this is where they may get them. But it’s a vague term and those illegalities must be proved. The Department of Homeland Security Special Agent Glenn Sorge said in a news release;

“The facilitation and promotion of prostitution offenses across state lines and international borders is a federal crime made even more egregious when it’s blatantly advertised by a global criminal enterprise,” and DHS will use its authority to “to disrupt and dismantle such organizations and seize the millions of dollars in illegal proceeds they generate.”

But online escort websites have been a save-haven for giving adult workers of all varieties a platform where they can screen clients and escape the predatory third parties (pimps) who may take their money or physically abuse them.

To many, myself included, this does seems like a gay witch hunt. What do you think? Sound off on our Facebook page.
