Always starting trouble, that one. The lovely Lisa E can be seen flipping her ring finger in the new ads for the upcoming Bravo series Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce. But when the network tried to place them on public transit in LA and New York, they were promptly denied, citing “inappropriate material.”
Says The Hollywood Reporter:
MTA officials in both cities rejected the ad creative featuring Girlfriends’ star, Lisa Edelstein, showing off her ring finger with the words “Go find yourself,” according to Dom Camera, principal at Dom Camera & Company, a New York-based advertising agency that acts as Bravo’s out-of-home media buyer.
Camera told The Hollywood Reporter that the ad was also rejected by the owner of The Grove shopping center in Los Angeles, where it would have appeared on a wallscape and in digital ads. CBS Outdoor in New York and Los Angeles, and Van Wagner at The Grove initially approved the ad image on behalf of their clients and later rejected it for “inappropriate material,” Camera said.
Camera was surprised. “I never expected we’d get a turn-down for this campaign,” he said.
The ad campaign started Monday and will run on double-decker tour buses and phone kiosks in New York and Los Angeles.
Bravo, of course, knows a marketing ploy when it sees one, and has promptly used the opportunity to “See the Banned ‘Girlfriends Guide to Divorce’ Ad” on their website, announcing that, “Girlfriends Guide to Divorce won’t hit the small screen until December 2—but it’s already stirring up controversy.”
