Cats “rule the Internet”. Duh. Internet users have created and viewed millions of images and videos of cats, delighting in media that dwell on the cat’s many paradoxes. How Cats Took Over the Internet is a new exhibit at the Museum of the Moving Image in Queens that tells the history of cats online. It examines phenomena like Caturday, lolcats, cat videos, celebrity cats, and more to unearth why images and videos of the feline kind have transfixed a generation. This is one those exhibits that is so dumb it’s brilliant–and vice versa. Or is it just plain dumb? It’s not secret that productivity has been down, in the U.S. in particular, in recent years and I blame those damn cat videos. Here I am wasting more time on them now! Damn you, Grumpy Cat! You have plenty of time to catch it as it runs through January 31, 2016. In the meantime watch the original Nyan cat video.
